Touch or Button? How to Choose the Right Elevator COP for Your Building

Every lift has one part that every passenger touches: the car operating panel, or COP. It is small, but it decides how the lift feels. A smooth, responsive panel makes a building feel modern. A sticky or confusing one makes people complain.
So when you plan a new lift, or upgrade an old one, one question always comes up: touch panel or button panel?
There is no single right answer. Here is a simple way to decide.
The case for button panels
Push buttons have been used in lifts for decades, and many people simply prefer the feel of pressing something.
- Familiar to everyone. Children, elderly passengers and first-time visitors understand it at once.
- A real, physical click. Passengers know the press has registered.
- Practical in busy, rough places. Hospitals, factories and goods lifts see heavy use, and a solid button handles it well.
Button panels are available in many finishes, from brushed steel to glass fronts, and they remain a good choice where durability and simplicity matter most.
The case for touch panels
Touch panels have a flat, clean glass surface with no gaps and no moving parts on the front. This gives some clear advantages.
- A premium look. Glass fronts suit offices, hotels, showrooms and modern apartments.
- Easy to clean. A smooth surface wipes down quickly, which many buildings now care About.
- Freedom of design. Icons, floor names and colours can be arranged more freely than with fixed buttons.
The common worry with touch panels is whether they work reliably in real conditions, with wet hands, oily fingers or a hot, sweaty day. That is exactly what good touch technology must solve.
How our Touch AT Series handles real conditions
Our Touch AT series is built around three ideas that matter in daily use.
1. Smart Sense technology. Smart Sense allows the touch to work even in conditions like water, oil and sweat. It is enabled with an auto tuning feature that makes the panel resistant to these conditions, so passengers get a smooth touch experience.
2. Two colour LED. The COP and LOP have two LED colours to show a normal condition and a call condition. Passengers can see at a glance that their request has been registered. The LED colour can be chosen by the customer.
3. Voltage booster. The voltage booster keeps the required power level within the system, which supports accurate and safe performance of the elevator.
A quick way to decide
| If your building is… | Consider |
|---|---|
| A modern office, hotel or showroom | Touch panel |
| A hospital, factory or goods lift | Button panel |
| An apartment tower with mixed users | Either, based on your design preference |
| A place where easy cleaning matters | Touch panel |
| A place where passengers expect a physical click | Button panel |
Do not forget the landing side
The LOP, the call panel outside the lift on each floor, should match the COP in look and feel. A glass touch panel inside and a mismatched button panel outside makes the building feel unplanned. We make COP and LOP as a set so the finish, the LED colours and the style stay consistent from floor to floor.
Add-ons that make the panel work harder
A good panel can do more than call a floor. Depending on your building, you can pair it with:
- an access control module (password, fingerprint or RFID card) to restrict floors
- a position indicator that shows the floor number and direction clearly
- a display for floor names or messages
Plan these together at the start. Fitting them later is possible, but the cleanest result comes from designing the whole panel as one piece.
